Mark Schäffer (born November 14), better known by his stage name Schäffer the Darklord or STD, is a New York City-based musician who is active in the Nerdcore hip-hop scene.[1]

In 2001, Schäffer collaborated with Katastrophe on the title song to the feature film Sugar High Glitter City, directed by Shar Rednour and Jackie Strano; the soundtrack was nominated for an AVN Award but lost to Snoop Dogg.[2] Katastrophe and Schäffer then formed the San Francisco-based hip-hop group The End of the World along with Ricky Lee; subsequently Schäffer began performing solo.[2]

In 2003, while living in San Francisco, Schäffer was a member of the bands Burmese and Bottle dog.[3]

Schäffer's songs include "Craig's List", which tells the story of Craig Newmark and the widespread influence of Craigslist, "Night of the Living Christ" a sci-fi tale about the return of a zombie Jesus, and "Nerd Lust", about Schaffer's love for geeky women. Schaffer has performed along with MC Frontalot, MC Lars, mc chris and other nerdcore musicians at venues around the country.[4] When not rapping, Schaffer hosts burlesqueue shows and does stand-up comedy.[5][6] He starred in a music video of his song "The Rappist",[7] and appeared in Nerdcore Rising, a documentary about the world of nerdcore hip-hop. He has also been photographed and interviewed by Blender Magazine.[8]

Schäffer performed at Nerdapalooza, the largest nerdcore hip hop event, in 2008, 2009, and 2010.[8] In July 2009, Schäffer said, "Nerdapalooza was downright epic this year. Even more so than last year, which is quite a statement considering how utterly rife with awesome last year's installment was."[9]

Schäffer has also performed in and hosted numerous burlesque shows, including Hotsy Totsy, Kitty Nights, Original Cyn, Starshine Burlesque, Sweet & Nasty and Vaudeville Nouveau. Schäffer also co-produces EPIC WIN BURLESQUE with Nelson Lugo.[10]

Production on a music video for "The Bender" finished on March 21, 2010. It was released on December 7, 2010.[11]
